Boom Op Advice?

I understand.

Most of the time I'm working with crew I'm either friends
with or have a good relationship with. Even then I don't
want my friend to say something during the take. I also
know that people have different ways of working. In your
group it might be fine for the DP, boom op, mixer or actor
to say a little something during the take and the director
appreciates it. There is no one right or wrong way to handle
that situation.

I hope I didn't come off as dogmatic. We all know a crew
member yelling cut on a pro set will cause problems, but
on the types of movies we make anything goes.

Despite the hated "fix it in the mix" (music) or "fix it in post" (film/video) you absolutely MUST let things roll once started. Technical problems almost always go unnoticed by the artist during a take, and you may miss that never to be recovered moment of magic. Even if you don't keep it, that special moment may have inspirational impact upon the rest of the production.
