Resilient Media Group

I have just gotten an unsolicited offer from Resilient to distribute my two older shorts on their ROKU channel.

Anybody have any experience with them or similar?

They are offering 70%. Is this the going rate?

Thanks

How much was any previous offer?
Did they tell you 70% of what?
How much money have you previously made on these shorts?
Do you have a better offer elsewhere?
What is the minimum you need to make per quarter to make a distribution deal worthwhile to you?

Thanks for the reply
70% of the "net" (Ha!)

Nothing to compare it to.

Had given up trying to monetize. No previous offers. No better deal available.

Any money made on these would frankly exceed expectatiions.

If the shorts are sitting on the proverbial shelf, not making anything for you and you don't have any expectation of making money from them....maybe getting them out into the world is worth something to you?

I'd make sure that the shorts are in a format that's acceptable to them so you're not expected to do any work/spend any money.

Make sure you have an out clause - that you can pull your movies
from them after a specified time. If you don't see any money after,
say, three quarters you pull your movies.

I see no reason to not give them a shot at making you some money. Having
these movies available to be seen can't hurt.

What are your concerns?

They want two years. I want to leave as little on the table as possible.

What plans do you have for the films during the next two years?

Devils Advocate: the film go on their channel but don't make
any money at all. Do you believe you will get (and have to
turn down) money generating offers durning that time?

I would advise against a two year deal if you realistically believe
you would lose money on thi deal.

Sometimes it helps to look at distribution with a realistic perspective.

A few older shorts that have not made money and do not have
distributors making offers can very often benefit from getting some
kind of notice.

It sound like a good deal to me.

If you choose to not take the deal, what will those movies be doing
during those two years? What will you be doing to monetize them
during that time?

I think I am going to pass. As a purely business proposition, they have all the data and I have none. 70% of what? How many views? I have no way to audit any of this. Even if they were transparent, I don't see a dime until my share gets to exceed $100.

I have another, albeit slim, possibility of some revenue, but this is not why I declined. Just felt exploited. Sure, they provide the platform, but I created the content.
