Anyone know anybody in data recovery? I'm getting crazy quotes for a HD. Issue is, it probably has bad heads or something is causing them not to engage.

Thanks

Do you have a microcenter nearby? They use an outside company and can diagnose the drive while you wait (over the net) then give you a quote.

Something like this?

Unfortunately Geordi won't be born for another 300 years or so...

Good luck, though! Losing data SUCKS.

I've done it with software before but you can't do that if it does not spin up ;)

If you are mechanically inclined you can change out the read/write head mechanism and or platters pretty easily if you have a drive thats similar to use as a donor. Ive saved a couple of drives this way.. I wouldnt recommend using the drives again afterwards, but just to get the info you need off of them it may save you $200 - $1600.....

Yeah but I don't have a clean room and one dust particle on a disk is like a nail in a tire.

At one time Staples used to do data recovery. I never had to try them for that, but like them for other things.
