The best I can tell you is to do a search on fair use and copyright. Read through what you find and see if your project meets the fair use guide lines.

It's a crazy world, where everything is owned by someone. If you're using footage someone else shot, they own it, you have to ask permission to use it. Most likely, you won't get in trouble for it, but if the audience is outside your own home for the product you make, you have the potential to be sued past the point of no return.

The solution is to consult a lawyer, which costs money, which prevents people from doing many creative things... but then many artists have been criminals *** I'm not recommending you become one, just making a social statement ***
