The Iranian government doesn't allow you to see many U.S. films so you
think “Hollywood” (the movie studios) is a system of corruption. The
Iranian government doesn't allow much information about Iranian films
to reach the U.S. so I don't get to see or even research films from Iran.
I only see the best of the best.
Because of these conversations I am now looking into Iranian cinema
more deeply. I've just purchased several books. Government censorship
of movies doesn't lead to great cinema or great directors. For example
the movie “Asabani Nistam” (2014) was a movie I thought was very
powerful but it was banned in your country so you may have never seen
it.
It is interesting that as an outsider I have always known Iranian films to
be very good generally. Wonderful directors, terrific, emotional writing,
fine acting. But YOU, an insider, sees that Iranian directors cannot make
professional looking movies. Here in the States we never see the film of
Iran that you see.
How many films do you see a month? I see between 15 and 25.
I usually watch very few new films. I like watching old films. For example, I watch Coen movies because I have them saved, I also have a few Steven Spielberg movies, though, I can only watch Schindler's List lonely, because it has some porn. I have Terminal, Saving Private Ryan, and I like to have "Catch me if you can", and "Duel".
I like Phone booth, too. The Lord of the rings were good too, didn't watch for years....
I watch for example "No Country For Old Men" some times in Persian subtitle, some times in English, and some times in no subtitles, hopefully, it can help me learn English. Of course, this is a nice movie in Persian translation with voice, too. And it is less re-watchable than "Raising Arizona" because latter is in Persian dialogue PERHAPS, maybe this is not the reason, anyways, watching "No Country For Old Men" improves my English too. I no longer have laptop AND I think the film subtitle can't be watched by CD player, so, these times, I see with no subtitle more.. Maybe I should export it soon. I love Phone Booth, too... I see more new trailers and clips than whole new movies. I didn't watch many films of other than Coen brothers, as a matter of fact. If TV of Iran shows a film from Steven Spielberg, I perhaps will be watching it, too, because I know his works not enough.....
I may have to find Persian version of the No Country and mix with English subtitles, this is better way to learn English, and I will understand with more ease.... I like this way...
