    Audio Inputs

Oh so true, I was filming an interview a few weeks ago and unknowingly picked up some minor background interference from the guy's cell phone. Didn't ruin the shot, but its not 100% what it could have been.

    Audio Inputs

XLR would be the best option if you can use it, but 1/4" would work as well. You probably want to avoid 1/8" if possible.

    1,000$ Camera Question

My Sony HC-7 works well for me, I've had it since last year and it has always had far better quality than the Canon I used to own (probably cuz its way out dated) The Canon HV30 looks very promising though and was rated best.

    The Flashback

I think that the use of a flashback depends entirely on the context of the film. Is it needed? Is it more effective to show or to tell? Suppose the protagonist experienced near death experience of drowning and someone asks him to go swimming. You can either show the flashback of the nde or...

    HD or DV?

Go with HD because, regardless of whether or not the DVD will be HD quality, the HD footage will still look better than the normal footage. You will have more options with HD.

    Lighting and other vital things.

Well, since your in college (like me) I'll assume you want to go cheap on most of the stuff. Depending on your college you might be able to rent or checkout equipment. Lighting... I (sometimes) use a 200 watt and a 300 watt lights, they aren't very expensive ($3-4 for the bulbs) and make a...

    HVX200 Question?

Make sure to connect the cable before turning your camera on, and make sure that your capturing application is set for the same settings you recorded with (ie. HighDef or Standard) I was having a problem for a while until I realized I was trying to import HD footage into a standard definition...
