    BlackMagic announces new camera

Thank you jax_rox and brunerww for clarifying the differences! At this stage I am pretty much sold on buying the BMPC. Just one other quick question (and I apologise for its stupid simplicity) but is a 16mm sensor (like the one the BMPC or the Digital Bolex) use similiar in terms of demensions...

    BlackMagic announces new camera

I've read the specs for both the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and the Digital Bolex. But I am not a very technical guy. What is everyones thoughts on which is the better camera? (outside of the potentially large price difference between the two)

Quotes about wanting to work in the industry

We all know the line "There is no other industry in the world that I would rather work in" BUT I'm struggling to find a time where somebody famous has said that. Does anybody know of a producer, director, actor etc who has spouted off something similar?

    Buried Film Lighting

Does anyone have any information on how they lit the scenes in the movie Buried (staring Ryan Reynolds)? All of the senes are obviously low lit scenes and in the film he has only a cellphone, a lighter and a torch -- each of course would provide practical light BUT I imagine each scene was...

No Storyboard, No Shot List Directors

That's a very good point Cracker Funk. I personally fall in between with most of the projects that I have directed; I tend to write a detailed shot list and storyboard parts of scenes where I want to employ something unusual to tell the story. But on set I will often change things or forgo...

No Storyboard, No Shot List Directors

Hi guys, I currently only know of two directors that don't really rely on storyboards or shot lists: Christopher Nolan and Clint Eastwood. Further Evidence to support this below: Regarding Nolan: Regarding Eastwood: ON THAT NOTE: if Clint doesn't say Action or Cut what does he say?? So...

Tilt shift & Select Focus Lenses for OTS and CU

I definitely agree that a glowing red wall would definitely produce an interesting look. I'll try and take some photos of the room that I intend on using sometime but otherwise I also agree with your other suggestions. THANK YOU CHILIPiE!!!

Tilt shift & Select Focus Lenses for OTS and CU

Thanks Zensteve :) and I definitely agree with you on the DIY stuff. The rig that I use with my canon camera is all DIY, from the cage, shoulder rig to the follow focus :) I was thinking though: I might purchase some trouble lights similar to these ones...

    Red colors in a scene

Alternatively I might purchase some trouble lights similar to these ones: http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100354515?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=utility+light&storeId=10051&N=25ecodZ5yc1vZ12kx&R=100354515#.UT1u3Tvp0sB Would it be better to hang one behind the two actors and one in front --...

Tilt shift & Select Focus Lenses for OTS and CU

Very good points chilipie. I definitely see where you're coming from, especially in regards to how a directors style is very much the result of his work i.e. one style that works wonders on a chick flick might look dreadful on a horror movie. I really appreciate your feedback!!! To kind of...

    Red colors in a scene

Hi guys, I am by no way a competent DOP. In the past I have worked on projects as a screenwriter or director but on those projects I have always had the pleasure of working with an experienced DOP. In the next few weeks though I will be shooting a short film with two actors by myself. The film...

Tilt shift & Select Focus Lenses for OTS and CU

Hi guys, I've been working on trying to really hammer down my style of directing and my preference of shots i.e. my trademarks. Much like everybody else I really want to have something that people instantly recognize and will associate with me e.g. Paul Greengrass has his shaky cam, Michael Bay...
