Director trying to convince me (producer) that 120 fps is a must!

I agree the DP/ACs need 1-2 days to get used to camera. Those training days increase the budget around 50-100%. Here is a good one about director's reasonability by Kevin Smith: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL-PRLEM3To

When the talent isn't performing it like you need it, how early do you say "Cut." ??

I tend to agree with _Rok_ Let the actor always go until the end of the take unless 1 or 2: 1) The rest of the take would be 100% unusable (usually tech reason) 2) Actor loses it (at least inexperienced actors don't always dare to stop acting themselves even if they have lost it (forgot their...

Director trying to convince me (producer) that 120 fps is a must!

@Nate North: Thanks for the samples and tips. @GuerrillaAngel: I am afraid of exactly that. Film's vision is that of director's so, the only decision for me is to whether to produce this or walk-away, not really to look for another director.

Director trying to convince me (producer) that 120 fps is a must!

Thanks for comments all. Experience of crew: 1) The director is an indie short film-maker with some international festival success. No experience of Red. 2) The DP/operators don't have experience of Red (but are generally experienced in DSLR / DV cams) 3) The editor (director himself) does not...

Director trying to convince me (producer) that 120 fps is a must!

Thanks for comments. @David.rhsc: The action to be shot is human movement (running, falling, fighting). @Gonzo_Entertainment: I think 60 FPS at 720P should be ok. We just need to shoot the rest of the film with similar camera (DSLR or HDV+DoF) as the 60 fps part. So for DSLR it would be...

Director trying to convince me (producer) that 120 fps is a must!

Hi, I am considering to produce a 5-minute indie short film. It is a parody of Hollywood action film cliches. Currently, the director is trying to convince me that I need to arrange financing, so that we are able to shoot with Red One (=120 frames per second at 2K) to achieve slow motion that...

    Terrible situation

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Terrible situation indeed. The following approach worked okay for my first 15-minute short film with four actors to prepare them. The rationale behind this approach is that I find the actors the key element. Much more important than the time spent on technical...

watch Short Film: The Walk - Teaser Trailer

Thanks guys for the encouraging comments and advise. Btw, the tracking camera movement (ext shot) was achieved by placing a tripod on a track dolly.

watch Short Film: The Walk - Teaser Trailer

Thanks for the feedback. I realize that the language is less than perfect and especially missing some nuances and imperfect clarity / pronunciation. As said, I think I need to reconsider for the next film. Question: Would you rather watch a subtitled film if it would give some more...

watch Short Film: The Walk - Teaser Trailer

Thanks for the comment. I've got this similar comments earlier from quite a few people including some professional producers. I was stubborn enough to script&shoot the film in English although neither me nor any of the actors is a native English speaker. I believe it adds a lot to the...

watch Short Film: The Walk - Teaser Trailer

Hi all, I shot my first short film last summer. It is a 15-minute indie thriller titled "The Walk". Many lessons learned and first-timer mistakes such as: - too short pre-production, preparation and production planning (about 250 hrs including screenplay) - trying to take care of too many...
