Simple handheld shots work. And quick zoom style shots or whatever thats called, work as well. Think The Office, when they zoom in to the face, to convey a sense strong emotion.

how do you do a slowmo shot that syncs with the music? that has always intrigued me.

I'm just saying this out of my own personal observation and experiences, but people tend to use POV shots as a "cheap" shot. Its easier to shoot. And like what everyone said, its WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overused.

How do you guys add depth or deep characterization in a short film? I'm curious coz, its kinda hard to achieve some depth when you have so little time to build the story or the characters given the limited amount of time. I'm thinking like 10-20 mins?

Its in the viewscreen. Those black lines aren't that visible. There not solid black lines, but when you look carefully you'd see them moving up and down like static. I think I encountered it when filming in dark places. I don't remember.
