Anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is EPIC (too bad the source material was several magnitudes better) and Mononoke is the shit with epic style. Others include Gankutsuou, Summer Wars, Spirited Away, Blue Exorcist and more.

Akira Kurosawa, Federico Fellini... Mahiro Maeda for anime. (Gankutsuou was the best/craziest anime adaptation of anything ever)
