    Blu ray v HD-DVD?

Back to the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray thing... Blu-Ray is the wiser choice since it is capable of holding significantly MORE data than HD-DVD. At this point, its all a matter of what codec they're encoding the movies in and what the bitrate is. Why Blu-Ray looks like ass sometimes is beyond...

    Renting Equipment

Thanks for the feedback. We're about 10 mounts out from completion. South Hollywood Rentals is the name of the company. We'll be offering HMIs, Kinos, dollies, jibs, remote heads, lenses, cameras, etc. What most may be especially interested in is the Si-2K camera rental. South Hollywood...

    Getting a Camcorder

I'm gonna have to agree... get SOMETHING with 3CCDs. 1/6" chips suck... in every way imaginable. The bigger the chip, the better. So, for $350, go on ebay and get the best 3 ccd camera you can. I'm sure the people on this site will help you with that :)

    Need some advice camrea/computer

Regarding Red... have you taken a look at the Silicon Imaging SI-2K? www.siliconimaging.com or you can google SI-2K. Check that thing out. What I've noticed more and more is that people get consumed by the resolution monster. Consider a camera with 4K resolution and a dynamic range...

    The Ultimate Camera Debate

The HV20 has a very tiny lens. It has virtually an infinite depth of field and does NOT give you any of the cinema aesthetics that you'd expect to find in a good movie camera. For that price, I'd suggest perhaps a used DVX100a or XL1... even though I despise the XL1. DVX is currently running...

    watch My First Music Video...

Not too shabby. I noticed a ton of jerky movement and seemingly unplanned shots. It is very apparent that you shot live. Typically, I'd suggest 3 cameras to do a live performance like that. You get some better angles, steady movement and it gives you a lot more options in editing. You may...

    Vampire Prosthetic -- Opinions?

Nice. I'm not too fond of the nose ridges either. Granted its a photoshop images, but I think the forehead needs to be blended better with the actor and perhaps lessen the ridges curving up around the temple. Good stuff! :)

    Renting Equipment

I'm heading up a new rental company down in South Florida and I'm curios to know what the average indie filmmaker looks for when they rent equipment. What would your ideal rental house include? What cameras would it offer? What lighting, grip, etc.? Also, what would be considered fair rates...

    Need some advice camrea/computer

Oh yeah... and even though everyone hates PC, there is that option. Vegas is cheap and so are PCs. If you REALLY need to shrink your budget down, consider that option. No, its not FCP, but it lets you cut films and do it fast. Just don't use the Sony codecs... bleugh!

The VX2100 does not shoot in 24P and only has an exposure latitude of about 5 f-stops. You'll need to watch your lighting. I shot a short film on this thing a couple of years back and I wasn't too fond of it. Its a great camera for ENG and TV... but personally, I don't think so for film...

    Appropriate Filter

Might want to make sure what kinda film you're using. Is it balanced to 3200K, 5600K? I don't think you want to use an 85B on 5600K film if you're shooting outdoors... unless you like the orange look :)

    Good HD Camera

I wouldn't go with Red just yet. Their latest update caused a ton of crashes on set. Remember that with all new cutting-edge technology, there exists problems. I'm sure they'll have everything ironed out eventually. Another thing to think about is PAPER vs. REAL LIFE. The RED camera looks...
