Avid just released support for RED camera. It's possible to use R3D files directly in Avid DS and Avid MetaFuze.

The Scarlet, which is not available yet, will be similar to RED ONE in terms of cost/quality. RED ONE is a high end digital cinema camera, Scarlet will be more affordable to independent filmmakers.

While the interim Avid.com/red workflow for RED originated footage is OK, Avid did a little demo of the upcoming technology in Los Angeles on November 4th. Hopefully soon we'll be able to skip the many steps and third party apps of the current workflow. See RED Avid workflow.

Yes, Scarlet and there is also Epic 5K camera introduced by RED Digital Cinema at NAB this year. Epic will be around $30K (USD). People with existing RED ONE orders will have an option to upgrade I think.

Release print are have poor resolution. Far below 2K. While it wouldn't hurt to go 2k, you will probably be fine. Now, what camera is this 1080x756? That's a very odd size.

We just got a word that there will be an exclusive presentation showcasing third party post tools which help FCP in dealing with RED camera workflow. At the moment there is no "official" way to load RED .R3D files into Final Cut. This tool addresses some of those issues.
