Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

FSF...I read through a large part of my script, and was surprised to find only one adverb, which I realized was unnecessary and deleted it. I've come around to your way of thinking. Given the emphasis on showing and not describing motivations, adverbs do indeed seem largely unnecessary...

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

Thanks FSF, I really do appreciate all the constructive feedback. Hopefully I didn't come across as defensive, I'm really just trying to flesh out what you're saying to understand it. I definitely need all the help I can get. I've been writing for a long time, but have not done scripts in a...

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

Thanks FantasySciFi. Please be aware I literally came up with all the above in about five minutes, it's not really representative of how I write. Your specific points: 1) I don't write in guttural typically. I just threw it in there so there would be some dialog in it. 2) I'm not entirely...

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

I'm following the advice posted here...full slugs it is! Thanks for talking me through it!

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

I agree, that's one of the reasons I originally asked the question. I don't want to get in the habit of directing the movie through the script, I know that's a bad idea. I guess the safe way is as you mentioned, using full slug lines.

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

Thanks. I tend to prefer full slugs to mini-slugs, so I get where you are coming from. What about the case where you don't necessarily want the hard break of a new scene... for example, you are looking at a doorjamb with a pen mark for how tall a child is, and then you fade the shot to the...

Format Question - Long Period in Single Location

Hey all, a script format question here: In my script I need to convey long periods of time in a single location. This is not what I'm writing, but here's an example of how I'm currently doing it: EXT. FRONT YARD - DAY Bright sunshine, green grass. A perfect summer day. YOUNG...

    Capitalization in Screenplays

Thanks. This definitely seems like a preference thing. I think I will remove all such caps from my script and see how it feels. I can always add them back in.

    Capitalization in Screenplays

I too, am astounded. BTW, my screenplay is going to get edited to remove a lot of caps, based on your remarks. Thanks! One question... What about sounds intended to be shocking or extreme? Example: John drops to one knee. BAM! He fires once, killing Bob. OR John drops to one knee...

    Need Some Feedback

Fun little script. other than any format issues, the first thing I noticed was the dialogue needs some work, IMO. Maybe read it out loud. Most of it is okay, but Nolan's seems stiff, and not the way people really talk, in some places. An example: Might sound better as something like...

How to handle character name changes?

Thanks FantasySciFi. I think we are in agreement. I want to keep changes to a minimum, but there should only be one per character and they both happen early, so I want to get them out of the way and have the reader see the actual character names thereafter. I made some changes to my script...

How to handle character name changes?

Hmm...the problem is that of the two characters involved, one does not know his real name, and the other is willfully concealing his name. But this gets resolved in the first ten to 15 pages, I don't want to keep the characters using the false names for another 90 pages. The one who doesn't...

How to handle character name changes?

Hi... In one of my projects, some of the characters use false names, and their true names are only revealed later. I want to write this in the way that is most readable and understandable to people reading the script the first time through. What I have done to this point, is name the...

    Adaptation Question

Thanks Sweetie, that's some good information. I found a contact number for the agency that used to represent the author, I will call them and find out if they still represent the author's estate or knows who does.

    Adaptation Question

Thanks for the information, FantasySciFi. How can I find out the exact status of the copyright in terms of licensing, purchases, options, etc. I checked the US Copyright Office catalog; I see the author's estate listed as party 1, and the studio as party 2. How can I find what that means...
