Is foreign music copyrighted, old italian scores, etc?

I'm not sure of the law on this. But are old soundtracks from the 60's and 70's that were released by an italian production company for example, protected by US copyright law? If not are these useable materials for indie film, or no? Thanks.

Audio Technica AT897 shotgun mic question, recording above actors?

I purchased a bluetube tube amp and the hiss dissapears. Problem is this device is not really portable at all so it causes some problems as far as mic portability.

    beachtek adaptor or cable?

You are also going to need a tube amp of some kind as this mic produces a significant amount of audio hiss without one.

watch "138 Days" Entry to Youtube Project Direct & My Story

This is my entry to the 2008 Youtube Project Direct Contest. I posted a long story on here earlier about all the trouble we had making the film and documenting the full process but i removed it. In short we had many issues during making the film, and especially at the end due to a lack of time...

Making fake radiation burns or fire burns on skin?

I've been trying to find a technique for making cheap fake radiation burns. I have a scene where i need to have someone badly burned and bruised on the face. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Adding camera shake

I just finished filming a scene inside an airplane, some of the shots were greenscreened showing the sky out the window, some of them just shot in the plane with no sky visable. In the shots without the sky visable it does not seem very realistic. In one of the shots the actor and I were just...

Audio Technica AT897 shotgun mic question, recording above actors?

In the event i can't get a preamp, how should i best use what i have to get the best sound? Also i notice most of these preamps require an external power source and are not battery powered, how do i deal with this in the field? My mic for example runs on a AA battery. Camera is battery powered...

Audio Technica AT897 shotgun mic question, recording above actors?

For this test i'm not recording to the camera though. I'm recording straight into my Zoom H2 recorder. All default settings and standard mic input. I tried it on the camera and i get the same white noise. Any suggestions on how to stop this? Thanks.

Audio Technica AT897 shotgun mic question, recording above actors?

Ok, did some more testing and having it pointed at more of angle does work much better. I also seem to be getting a fair amount of audio hiss when it's further away from the subject. Say maybe a foot infront of them. I can remove the hiss using noise reduction filters in post but there must be...

Audio Technica AT897 shotgun mic question, recording above actors?

I've constructed a boom pole, purchased a Audio Technica AT897 and 25' of XLR cable. I was testing it out today just holding the shotgun mic itself in a completely silent padded room. I connected it via mini-plug to my zoom H2 recorder. When recording i tested several different locations, first...

Do Action & Indie go together anymore?

In watching alot of "award winning" independent short films, real independent films, not these so called independents that had a 6 million dollar budget and won sundance. It seems all of them are short romance, comedy, or drama stories set on a street corner, in someone's backyard or in a house...

Starting out, short film or feature length?

I've ordered the book DV Rebels Guide, so i'll read over that as soon as it arrives. I've started work on writing a short. I imagine the film completed will be around 20 minutes. Is this an acceptable length for a short film that should be submitted to film festivals that accept short films...

Starting out, short film or feature length?

Current resources are all variable at this point. Money, i of course want to spend as little as possible. I've already purchased a fairly expensive camera, (what i think is one anyways) I don't have to deal with buying and developing film so that expense is out. Costuming, some props, possible...

Starting out, short film or feature length?

Because none of my shorts are of any quality that I, or anyone else would take seriously. They were all practice. So i'm just trying to decide if i should make a short film or a feature length to start showing to people on the idea that, this is real and i'm not just playing around with a camera...

Starting out, short film or feature length?

I've made a ton of short films all on digital 8. I recently bought the HV30, so i can now shoot video that i can relate to film in appearance. 24fps, good image quality, etc. I'm reading Robert Rodriguez's book "Rebel without a crew" and i have watched his movie bedhead and el mariachi. Though I...
