Kick-ass Music Videos

Any video that you are particularly fond of, post it here! I think it'd be awesome if we could have an on-going thread, dedicated to all of the best music videos, new or old (hoping that we keep a keen eye out for the new).

For newer videos, I'm a fan of this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrUvu1mlWco

Besides looking spectacular, I think this video does a terrific job of capturing the playful, carefree rebelliousness of youth.

Anyway, which videos do you like?

This is just crazy interesting to me. The environment & production design, not the robo-lezzie aspect (WE!)

(I'd definitely recommend the making of vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgYGFk7pL-U)

Another fascinating Bjork video; current, too!

This sh!t's just cool.

My current fave.

LMAO good.

Now, capturing the mood of the song... I'd support this.

More cool video that supports the spirit of the musicians.

Here are two video versions of the same song.
The official is fair, but I really like how someone took this in a typography direction. Way cool execution.

And then once you get into that stylistic design stuff I'd have to throw in the opening credits to Casino Royale and the (pointless) Americanized remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

I'm not real up on the latest videos. When Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMA's to argue that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time, I was intrigued - how amazing must this video be that he actually had to interrupt the whole show to proclaim it? And then I watched it, and it was 3 minutes of Beyonce doing a few simple dance moves. And I cried for the children of today, that they must suffer in a world where that could be considered by anyone to be one of the greatest videos of all time... what happened to the world where music videos were the playground of new and innovative filmmakers?

Tool had a run of good ones and were an early influence for me, I believe their guitarist shot most of them. I actually have a reel or two of 8mm around somewhere where my friends and I shot our own stop motion heavily influenced by the first one:

And of course - Cube Squared's "Baby Doll":

Oh my God, I have so many videos to watch! If youtube would stop being herky-jerky, I'd have my evening planned.

IDOM, nice Tapeheads reference! I finally watched it -- fun movie in it's own right, but especially for filmmakers.

New rule: You're not allowed to post in this thread, without including a link to an awesome video! Keep 'em coming, kids!

For newer videos, I'm gonna take the easy route and post a couple of obvious ones (they both went viral). But dammit, they're both really cool.

I love the unbridled silliness in Psy's Gangnam Style:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0

And I love how this video is equally simple and complex:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY

Closer is one of my all-time favorite videos. Most NIN videos are pretty awesome.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFwQP86BRs

The same goes for most Marilyn Manson videos, but I like this one in particular:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKkiCFOE-Ic

Not sure why, but I kind of love this video (maybe because it has such a bad-on-purpose vibe to it?):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuRKRFjm-HA

I really love the alternate live version of Supermassive Black Hole. I think because it has such dynamic cinematography, so it stays interesting despite the fact that it's not really that complicated.

Ditto on NIN's Closer. Probably still the best video I've seen. Doesn't hurt that he's my favorite musical act, either.

Ditto on those Tool videos. Awesome.

Do fan videos count? Someone posted this on I.T. a while ago. Love the song. Very cool video. Don't know if Tool intended all of that Fibonacci stuff, or not. Cool either way.

Oh dear. I'm pretty much out of the loop for new music videos. I don't have cable or MTV 5, or whatever.

LOL! These are just fun!

I quite enjoy this music video:

on a more traditional note:

I'm a huge QOTSA fan, this is probably my favourite of theirs....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgVfjXA_QY0

It's also a good one for those that like to try and emulate the grindhouse look!

How has nobody posted THRILLER?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA

As for my own personal picks, idk. I'm gonna have to think about it some more. I remember the first music video I ever saw (that made an impression, at least).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P4A1K4lXDo

Oh, and I definitely love this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWgvGjAhvIw

Love the Tool and Aphex videos. Also can't argue with the NIN and Manson videos (though I'm not much a fan of them musically). I will see those and raise you some Neubauten:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC1BA02ID1Q

not much of a Godsmack fan, but I dig this song and the video is fantastic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SSUQxGjZZ4

A bit of minimalism from the Brothers Quay (definitely influenced the Tool videos, and influenced by Jan Svankmajer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9uf25wHhs0

was trying to find the video for Level 42's "Something About You", but no dice there. It's creepy and great. But my all time favorite video (in part because it's my all time favorite song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSuvPuQM7qc

I'm sure I'll come up with more later!

Like someone else had said, Marilyn Manson has some awesome videos. This is my favorite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R682M3ZEyk

Not a big fan of MGMT's music, but their videos are usually pretty neat. This one reminds me of Wes Anderson's films. The wife part was kind of sudden though. I chuckled and backed away from the computer screen at the same time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cye-1RP5jso

Probably one of the best music videos of all time. Starts off like a normal music video, then gets really cool. Very suspenseful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_qMagfZtv8

Nirvana at it's best. An amazing song and a great video. The cinematography and set design are great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6P0SitRwy8

I love the mixture of sets, 3D and 2D animation, people, and sculptures in Gorillaz videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw8PpYBiDsc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAOR6ib95kQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNeF30RverQ

(Yes, I am aware I already posted this video)
Not a huge fan of Soundgarden, but I love this video and song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mbBbFH9fAg

Apparently they had no money and only 1 or 2 days to shoot. Looks great! The editing and cinematography is great.

Dready, I actually was about to post Thriller, last night. I chose not to, only because I worried it might come across as some weird kind of self-promotion-by-proxy (my current video borrows VERY heavily from it). :D

This video is A LOT OF FUN:
