The debut film of Morning After Pictures tells the story of a twenty year-old guy, Liam Maguire, who's recently realized he's done absolutely nothing with his life. After reading a book by Hal Roth, he becomes inspired and decides that he is going to sail around the world. There's just one problem: Liam has Aquaphobia (the fear of water). A comedy about the things we do for ourselves, those around us, and what happens when we break out of our shells.

A full length trailer will be released sometime in October. The full short film 'Sailing With Aquaphobia' will be released in the winter. Watch in HD and Enjoy!

Any feedback, complimentary or constructive is totally welcome.

I thought it was done very well. The only recommendation I have for you is to turn down the music. At times it was too hard to concentrate to the narration because of the music playing. I'd play around with starting the music at a different time as well. Other than that, I dug it!

Thank you for watching and commenting!

That's actually a great suggestion. I think the levels are great at the begining, but then the music starts to pick up, and the narration gets quieter and it really is quite distracting. I did that I think mostly because the audio quality isn't exactly where I wanted it to be... so I tried to mask it with music. But you're right... it is to the point where it's a little distracting. For the actual film the letter is longer, and I'm gonna record it on a better mic. So hopefully that wrinkle works itself out!

It was pretty good, but the sound wasn't very good though.

I know... it's been bothering me tremendously. I'm going to see if I can rent a better mic just for the one voice over for the actual film. The sad part is, that was the best take I got out of all the ones I recorded in terms of quality. I've got an H4n Zoom and a Rode Videomic (not exactly a dream audio set up, I know). I'm saving up to get a better mic eventually.

If anyone has any suggestions for getting better sounding audio with that equipment, I'd be more than happy to listen!

I'll say the same as everyone else, the audio of the music did take over from the narration at one point. However, I did think it looked very interesting and I do look forward to seeing the final result!

One question I have, how did you find the audio with that setup (assuming you have concluded filming)? I've heard plenty of good things about a setup just like yours, but also others stating that you will definitely need a preamp or a mixer as well, which can obviously run from $500 to $1000. Have you found any issues with recording the audio, or possible in post?

That said, again I am looking forward to seeing the final film, I really like the premise, and I also thought the teaser was really impressive, both in it's shooting and in drawing me in. Keep it up :)

I'm thinking: If I had aquaphobia and I'm scared from tab water even, let alone the ocean, I must have a REAL motive to decide to sail around the world. Reading an inspiring book and the realization that I'M 20 AND I'VE DONE NOTHING WITH MY LIFE?! is simply not enough for me. But If I decide that I'm gonna fight this phobia, then that's a different story.

Yeah, I get what you mean. There's more to it than that, though. The book is just the beginning. But his phobia really holds him back from doing a lot of things. There's one scene where he's at a friends pool, but he has to just sit in the driveway and watch them swim. It's the idea of doing this larger than life task, finally doing something that will impress people (in particular, a girl he's been in love with for years) and be able to break out of his shell. Imagine being scared of something that we use so frequently without even thinking about it. The sailing around the world is simply the thing that finally puts him over the edge to try and conquer his fear. Obviously it's not that easy for him and he gives up big time... but it's the idea of what does it take to motivate someone? It's not just "Hey this sounds cool, brb im gonna just get over my fear asap." It's much more than that. But since it's only a teaser, I didn't want to give away every motivation and/or result of the journey.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

The audio set up is what it is. I'd honestly like a better audio set-up. It works for what I'm doing right now... but I'd eventually like to submit to big festivals and I feel like this particular audio set up isn't nearly good enough to do that. It gets the job done, though. I feel like a preamp would deff help... but I'd rather save up and drop good money on a very good shotgun mic. That's just me, though!

Then It's ok, I'm looking forward to watching it :)

Something people tend to take for granted and not realize is that crossing the narration with the song's words is generally a bad thing. Often adverts tend to edit the songs in order to avoid having the words sang at the same time as the person on the advert, because it makes it hard to concentrate.

The narration also seemed slightly too dull, but I'm going to put that down to the fact that I've not gotten to know the character yet.

Good luck with the short film, it's an interesting premise!

There's no sailing in the trailer for Sailing with Aquaphobia.:) ?? I was expecting some funny bits of the guy flailing around the boat trying to avoid getting wet, etc.:)
