Teaching!!!

Hello all we are launching a new online film school with cool new ways of teaching film. If you ever have any questions in film let us know. www.learnfilmonline.com. You can PM me here if you ever have questions. We love to give out a lot of free information. Good luck with your films. And this forum is a great way to get started. Much Love.

LFO Team.

I like his personality, but the videos that are on the site right now aren't teaching anything. They aren't lit and the audio sounds like it's from the on-board microphone.

Are the eventual videos going to be for sale or something?

Would love to see what the teachers' past work consists of. Also, if you're planning on selling this, I advice you up the production value as mentioned above.

I'm not a fan of individuals 'teaching' when they aren't qualified...it's a pet peeve of mine. I'm not saying this company *isn't* qualified...but it seems that way at the moment. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected.

I, too, love the idea.

But so far the three videos you have on the site are on the poor
side. You show the behind the scenes but not the actual finished
project. You show some stills of make up - the makeup isn’t bad -
but you teach nothing. I did makeup efx for many years so I get a
LOT of people asking “how?”. No way could I point them to your
site.

I’m sure your plans are to expand and actually teach. But I’m
wondering if launching a new online film school without any
teaching videos shows your team in the best light. Do you feel
your team has put it’s best videos on the site? Do you look at the
new site and feel this is something that students will get a lot
out of?

Wanna see some really nice informational videos? Check out
sonnyboo’s site. He’s been doing close to the same thing for a
while now. That may give you some ideas.

Hey guys I agree with you 100%, we are in launch mode, courses don't start until September 6th. We will start actually teaching stuff soon. But I want everyone to understand we teach the business mindset more than the technicals. There are many great schools and teachers that teach the quality and the technicals. We want to give indy filmmakers the business side of movie making. Show them how to get there film out there. And actually get a film made. Look at it for the information not the way it's shot. But we will always improve as we go. We have a very small budget, and once we get funds we will up the quality for sure. We have shot with the mark 5, and red cameras, we know how to get good quality.

Here's something we shot on red that has over 61,000 views. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XHt32UVqLk&feature=player_embedded

I love the feedback, and we will do everything possible to make this a great resource for filmmakers.

Much Love.

Cool. I hope it will be a helpful service. The only thing that peeves me, is you plan to teach how to get your film out there, sold, marketed, etc...but how many films have you sold? How many films do you guys have in distro? How many films have you guys put on DVD? How many films have you guys put online?

I'm not trying to be an ass. But don't you think a company that is selling a product on how to get a movie sold, should have sold at least one feature film?

I'm just saying...

Good luck.

I'm kind of in agreement here, also not out to be an ass, but the Internet is full of cynicism. If you aren't qualified to teach, then it will be hard to convince people to learn.

I'd also like to know what you have done business-wise with film and video. It's an honest question without trying to be a dick or anything. 60,000+ views on YouTube is not good enough for me.

Going back to my original comments, whatever you put out there will be judged. If people are able to see and form an opinion based on the quality of the current content, I'd say you're in trouble business-wise. Again, the host is very personable and has a likable quality to him (you?). Add some real production value to the shoots, without having to spend money, just take more time and care, then you'll really have something cool here.

I agree with Mike. Let's see some credentials.

All good. I understand guys. I love being judged it's how I grow. I don't need to show credit because I have a voice, and I don't believe in flaunting my stuff around. In due time my filmmaker friends.

In the meantime once I have instructional videos up please take a look. If you don't learn anything then all good. My job is to teach.

Denny Morales..... I know you from somewhere. I can't place it, but if it's the same guy I'm thinking of, then he was done a lot of real work in film and television, and would be MORE than qualified to make these videos.

I don't need to show credit because I have a voice, and I don't believe in flaunting my stuff around.
With all due respect, yes you do.

If I am going to take a teacher seriously I want that teacher
to flaunt their stuff a little. and I'm not as interested in a
voice as I am in the "credit". A cult leader who ends up convincing
his followers to commit suicide has a voice.

Now you know I'm not making a direct comparison. But charisma
and a "voice" can be used for ill. You got the chops, show us what
you got. No one will think less of you if you show some really good
stuff around.

For example; in that makeup test. If that little intro you shot of
the guy (you?) being attacked had been well lit, well shot and well
edited it would have gone a LONG way to showing potential students
that you have the stuff to teach.

Look at it for the information not the way it's shot. But we will always improve as we go. We have a very small budget, and once we get funds we will up the quality for sure. We have shot with the mark 5, and red cameras, we know how to get good quality.
No offense intended, but is this how you are going to teach? Pay
no attention to the way it's shot. With a budget you can create
quality, but with no budget you can't expect quality. It's the camera
that matters.

I've shot with lesser cameras and no budget and offer excellent quality.
You don't need a RED or a Mark 5 or more funds to shoot quality.

Sonny Boo haha you caught me....

Vegas Indies TV? Is that you?

Okay, this guy has some credits and experience. If he doesn't want to tout them for some reason, not sure why not, but he has more experience than half the people on this site.

Denny has worked for numerous television stations in Las Vegas and San Diego, including affiliates of NBC, ABC, Fox, and more. He has been directing and technical directing for 14 years, in which he earned an Emmy Award. His passion, however, has always been with film, with which he has been working on the side of his television career. He has worked on many short films, music videos, documentaries, one of which won an award

Thanks Boo! Yes it's me. I feel like I just want to spread the film love now, it's not about me, it's about helping filmmakers see their dreams come true.

P.S I will no longer talk about this topic time to put the energy into teaching. Much Love and time to bring the Indy world out!

Denny,

If you have this experience, why don't you tell us! Come on, throw us a bone. You can't expect people to take seriously what you've posted thus far. You don't seem to have any credentials, and your BtS footage looks amateur.

What do you expect us to think?

A major selling point, and a major respect point would come from sharing your previous experience--it's what schools and teachers do when they introduce themselves (here's what I've done).

Purposefully hiding who you are isn't going to help. Why would you hide that from us? Just curious.

Now...with all those credentials, let's see a sample of how the class is really going to look and be held.

Cheers.

That's too bad. We are a pretty amazing group who
love talking about filmmaking. It's too bad that you
aren't willing to talk about what you do and what
you goals are as a teacher.

How about when an unbiased 3rd party (like me) posts some of his resume for him - like I did a few posts above?

Now...with all those credentials, let's see a sample of how the class is really going to look and be held.

He stated that the actual class videos will not go online until September. Be patient.

I have no idea why Denny isn't stating is credentials, as I agree 100% with M1chael that it only serves to help lend credibility to the classes and the person making them.
