Writing a script and I'm about 29 pages in and nothing really big has happened yet apart from stuff like an intro that sets up the script like a flashback, people warning the main character to beware of another (because she acts like she's "possessed") and two characters talking to each other, hinting at the thing that's going to happen in a few pages. It's a drama (I suppose. Don't think it can fit into any other genre)... Just worried if it's talking too long to set up or if I should just write it and then mention it when (or if, depending on whether people will) I get it critiqued.
I read online tha if nothing has really happened in the first 25 pages then the agents and exec's will throw it away.

Hi.
My name is Lois, I'm a student in England who's determinded to get into Uni in September (I struggle in exams because a problem called bad memory). I want to study Film and TV Production. I am part of a local writing group that writes for my local theatre (it might be well known in England, I'm not sure) and I'm currently working a draft of my first full length screenplay while editing my second completed novel (hopefully the first one will never see the light of day) as well as planning various other novels (science fiction and fantasy mainly).
I'm a big feminist and two of my favourite directors/writers are Joss Whedon and James Cameron because of how they manage to write feminist characters that aren't one demensional. I have too many favourite films to list and a little quirky thing about me is that if I read a book, I have to own it (well, not every. Since year 10) so I currently own about 300 books but my wish list on Amazon has about 300 more that I've either read but want or haven't read.
Despite the steretype, not everyone in England talks posh. I'm from the North East of England - so I don't sound much like the Southners.
I want to be a director - I want to write and direct my movies but hoping to direct the script that I'm currently working on is a dream that will probably never happen (I haven't properly directed anything yet and the one time I tried, everything just fell through and nothing got done).

One of the characters is a sweet, caring girl with an amoral nature beneath that.
One of the characters is a sociopath, to cut a long story short. I'm not good with writing subtle manipulation - full out threatening I can write but not that.
The third is emotional sensitive and easily manipulated but self-confident.
Does anyone have any advice or information? Like the sort of things that they would say or how. I do have an explanation as to why they're like this.
Also how to show two characters with strong libido without fully showing sex?

I'm going to university this year to study Film and TV Production, as well as aiming to attend MET Film School (for an MA after uni) and I'm worried (so is my mother) that I won't be able to get a job after university. I want to be a director and a writer; I don't think I could stand to live a monotonous office-style boring life (no offence is meant if anyone is offended).

But I'm not from like London where there are TV and movie studios and the university I've chosen has a lot of partnerships (sony, warner bros, the army and BBC, etc) and a lot of people manage to get jobs through the uni in BBC and a few small production companies (I think. I can't remember what was said on the open day). I know to be a director I'll have to work my way up and do voluntary work- I'm not Peter Jackson but being a script writing just means writing a good script...

Although a friend said differently, she said this: 'You won't need to prove you can write a good screenplay. You'll need to prove you can take a book like Twilight and make it compatible for screenplays. You'll need to prove you can conform to a certain style of comedy or dialogue that a producer is looking for. Then along the way, you write good original scripts on the side.'

Just wondering if anyone had any advice or information to stop me from having a freak out?
I'm willing to work hard and travel - just getting the money to actually do that would be a problem! I could get experience being a runner or something at my theatre (Hull Truck) as well but it's theatre - I mean, it might help! Anyone know if it would? I know quite a few of the directors and I've worked with them before when they put a few of my plays on as well as the Creative Associate for Young People there who is my writing teacher.

The uni (if I can get there; got to get 280 and I'm studying Literature and Psychology - so much to remember with a bad memory. I will do it even if it kills me but I've also done an EPQ as well and that's worth have an A-Level) has good facilities - Lincoln University - at least, that's what it seemed like to me when I went but the only actual studios I've seen in person are the facilities at Leeds MET, York St. John and Lincoln uni.

Another thing is majority of my knowledge comes from reading art of books and listening to film commentaries' and the Maximum Movie Mode of Sucker Punch, HP7p1 and Sherlock Holmes 2 as well as the behind the scenes of stuff. They're interesting and they show how things are done but they generally have big budgets; HP7p1 - definitely! I think one technique that I would love to try out would be the mirror scene in Sucker Punch - it looks so cool and head-ache-y! But probably cost a lot to get all of the equipment to do it though. That's just examples though.

I know a lot of people make short films when they're at uni... You think it would be possible to make a full length film if people are willing?

I'm doubting that I'll be able to do it because my mother isn't happy with my choice and think I'll account to nothing because I want to do the creative jobs, not the practical day-to-day boredom-fest that everyone else seems to do.

A friend told me to enter screenwriting competitions but right now, I don't exactly have the money to.

Okay, so let's say that we want to start with a shot of someone coming up through a door in the floor. The camera is level and facing forward, fairly wide, then starts a slow dolly back. As we dolly back, we reveal a much larger space, in which there are many other people coming up through other doors in the floor.

But all we've got is a single 8'*4' piece of dummy floor to work with.

As far as production is concerned, it doesn't seem too difficult to shoot. Seems to me like all you'd really have to do is keep the same focal length through all the shots, keep the dolly speed consistent, and move the camera as needed (since the dummy floor will of course stay in place). Big green screen behind the dummy floor, with blue (or red) balls marking each corner of the dummy floor.

Green screening should be easy enough. Tracking should be easy enough. But what about the seams? Each piece of 8*4 dummy floor is going to be placed next to another one, in post. How do we make it look like it's the same floor?

Hello Indietalk!

I just joined your community. It's been a long time since I have joined up and posted in a community having to do with music and films, my two greatest passions.

I've had luck in that one of my good friends is an animator, and another is an indie game developer - I've gotten a chance to write for commercials, stage productions, and video games. I'm hoping to find someone on here in need of a freelance composer.

By reading through here I've discovered a definite lack of response to the "I'm a musician - hire me!" posts, but I figure what the hell - can't hurt.

The following is stuff I've done. I'd appreciate comments and criticism. If anybody would like to hire a composer, even better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVxRVFYK0vw
DB Electrical commercial - I did both music and sfx. Was an extremely fun project.

https://soundcloud.com/four-fables/i3-2
Possible menu music for an upcoming game.

https://soundcloud.com/four-fables/snowfall
Some piano.

https://soundcloud.com/four-fables/199-5
This is a bit of an oldie (years old), but it went to the game developers' conference in California as pitch music for a game.

Thank you all!

I am in the middle of pre-production on a short film I'm hoping to shoot within the next few weeks, but something occurred to me: for several scenes, I need to shoot in front of a business (in this case, a motel). If I receive their verbal permission, are there any other legalities I need to consider in order to film the exterior of this business?

Also, to film the shot, I intend to stand on another business's property. Again, same question goes: if they allow my crew and me to stand and shoot the scene, what other forms of permission are needed?

While you're here, let me bother you with another question: filming in public (not a park or whatnot), such as railroad tracks, a neighborhood street (leaving homes/people out), etc.?

Thanks!
