I'm looking for cold shoe light options for my Sony PD170.

I've browsed B&H for the last few days and came up empty.

I have a night shoot coming up and need the most powerful cold shoe light available. (Just an FYI, I will not use external lighting because I'm going for that cheap "home video" look in one scene.)

But what I'm really asking for is suggestions... What have you tried? What works? What's "blinding", what's underpowered and where can I get a good selection?

You may check these out: http://www.frezzi.com/micro-lights1.htm
But these are professional, and if you want the cheap home movie look, you may want to go with an old super-8 light off of ebay.

You could duct tape a flash light to yer camera ;)

I have the same question but for audio. My HD cam has a cold shoe and the preamp that was suggested to me last year never worked right. A slight hum.

Do they make a decent affordable shotgun mic that runs on batteries? would it work for my camera. the camera has an external in jack.
