Has anyone had any dealings with York Entertainment? I have not heard or experienced anything good about them.

Ryan - do you not work for York? I ask because I had a film released through York and so far have defended York on this board through all the negative points raised (the key ones being York never seem to pay ANYONE often burying films profits in expenses etc).

And these dont just come from this board. I have also heard thjis from expereinced producers with 30 years in the business.

The key is so far... I have a few issues with York that I have yet to raise with Tanya but I want to raise with the board but at teh same point having a film at York puts me in a tough spot.

I can say that York very professionally requested a screener of my movie and very professionally contacted me AFTER reviewing the screener to say they were not interested. Can't say the EXPERIENCE with York was unpleasant but not having interest in our movie was unfortunate. What doesn't kill us ... ?

Would love to know about positive experiences with York (or any of these smaller independent distributors for that matter). We have been turned away 16 times so far (from a variety of reps, distributors and festivals) and we actually shot a GOOD movie.

I would include York on my list for movies that perhaps fit better into their portfolio.

I found them to be most proffesional. The contracts were signed and delivered when promised, they sorted E&O, MPAA and Copyright PA's for us, the cover art was good (if they didnt use some of the things we requested) the film was released and got into major retailers like Blockbuster and on Amazon and the film has made sales and gotten our name out into the market.

So for that part at least I was very happy as they really did everything the said and more. We even got some free copies out of them (which is always nice!!!).

I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. It's good to hear that they have treated Phill professionally.

I intern there, I just started working there in acquisitions. Distribution is very expensive. Retailers dont even want to pay for shipping when they buy dvds from us. It's always our expense. Theres so many expenses and costs its crazy. I'm sorry some of you have had bad experiences but so far from what I've seen it's a very professional company. I highly recommend you do business with York again.

Well for that part at least. As from when it was on the shelf to now... well that's a bit of a different story. So what's your beef with them? Wanna trade war stories?

Usually you cannot judge a distro in the early stages. Usually it's when your supply of products runs dry that they screw you (if they are that type of distro). Small time vendors are most suseptible to getting screwed. The bigger accounts get taken care of because that's the distributor's business!

I heard from one source that York skipped out on their tab to the tune of 85% of money owed (or something like that). He steered me clear of York.

Ha! I was wrong. The truth is York is just as their rep suggested. Oh well...
