I just got Premiere, so to test it out some friends and I shot a five minute...thing and are now attempting to edit it, but we have realized that we don't know how to separate it into scenes to put together when we capture...if it matters, we have Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5

Did you shoot for a straight 5 min or did you shoot a scene, stop the tape, shoot another scene, stop the tape, then another, then another, etc?

We stopped the tape several times, but at the same camera angle each time.

Is this a DV camcorder?

It should automatically do scene recognition.

Unless you're capturing it analog, then it would be one file.

If it's DV there should be a setting that does automatic scene capture.

I haaven't used premeir for a while, so others here should be able to tell you exactly how to do it.

How did you capture your footage?

Yes, we used a Mini-DV camcorder...we captured by just clicking "Capture" in the file menu...via Firewire.

In the capture window that comes up when you select capture from the file menu, there is a check box near the lower right corner that should be checked on to use the Scene Detection. That will split each take into seperate files for you.

You'll have to recapture the footage to do this, but it is only 5 minutes, so not a big deal.

ok...thank you very much...we ended up using the razor tool...it took forever...but i think it will be more effective to go back and do it again.
