Mixing audio on FCP

Hi Guys

I'm mixing the sound on a project and using FCP for the first time.

Now, according to the manual if I alter the faders on the audio mixer in real time, this should automate the mix so for instance I can pull the audio back under dialogue.

However, for some reason that I can't work out the mix isn't automating and although the levels change when I'm moving the fader, when I go back and play it back, the mix hasn't been retained.

Anyone any ideas about what I'm not doing right on this?

Worked it out.

Needed to switch on the audio keyframes. Doh! Sweet mixing system, just wish I had a desk to do this on rather than controlling the faders with the track pad. I don't know, you spend years in studios building up a set of motor skills only to have to re-learn them!

Needed to switch on the audio keyframes.

I've forgotten to turn on keyframes in AfterFX, doing frame-by-frame masking.

A rapid palm to the forehead follows immediately, 30 frames in.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I use my laptop so I tend to take it into the dealer with me when I'm buying peripherals. I've got a great local pro audio dealer who lets me do that.

I'll probably try the tascam and whatever they recommend, when I've got spare cash for a desk.
