Hi and thanks in advance for any help.

Now that I’m actually in the swing of production again I hope to make use and contribute to this forum, I’ve been a lurker for some time now. Anyway,…

I’ve been looking to try and create a split screen effect in my current project, to divide the viewing area (letterboxed) into two equal parts each with its own visual track. I'm sure you've all seen this effect at some point, certain 70's tv shows made heavy use of them)

I’m hoping to accomplish this outside the camera in a nonlinear editing suite. I’ll admit to not having looked around much for answers (time constraints) but I intend to do so within the next few days, in the meantime any leads or techniques would be much appreciated.

p.s.
I have access to Premier, Vegas, Avid, and a number of others through school acquaintances so feel free to recommend any software package that’d be useful for this effect. Thanks again

That's a fairly easy process.

Place the two layers of video on top of each other, then peel back half of the top layer so the bottom layer is visible.

In premiere, do what Zen said, and elaborating on the peel back part, go to the motion settings, and reduce each clip to half the screen area.

Thanks, i'll look into it tonight with premiere. I started out on Super8 and hand spliced everything before transfering to dvd...so this pc editing is still somewhat new to me)
