Does anyone know of a program or method to capture frames in intervals from a minidv camera via firewire on a pc? I want to do some time lapse shots of a sunset from out my window, and the only way I could do it now would be to record all 5-6 hours and speed it up, which I doubt I have the hard disk capacity for that. I've tried a program called vidcap.exe, but it's for TV cards and webcams, and says it can't draw for the IEEE1394 (firewire) device.

You want to make sure you use the "Capture every nth frame" feature.. ;)

Good Luck.

also, not sure if this is relevent to your camera, but some come with an interval recording feature, where the camera records 1 second ever 30 seconds or a variation. . . if your camera can do that, it definetly saves tape!

directorlca, unfortunately my camera doesn't do interval recording, but...

The WinDV program you recommended Will Vincent is awesome--exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much.
