Hi,
I know that this question was asked in a previous post, but:

I plan on purchasing the DVX-100 to shoot short journalistic/documentary pieces and distribute them on the internet.

Is the DVX-100 camera the one I still need to get for this plan and does format matter since it's going on the internet?

It's a good camera. The 100a is better, I've heard. Should suit your purposes fine!

the camera really doesn't matter when going online. it's all about how you feel shooting it

in my opinion, the dvx is the best for documentary filming b/c of its manual focus and zoom (coupled with the servo features if needed).

Just an opinion but if I might go for the Sony pd170. DVX100 gives you the 24p option but straight to web applicaion doesnt need it. Found this review which might help you. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/sony-dsr-pd170-camcorder-review.htm

I wouldn't say that. Whether you need 24p depends on the look you want. The DVX also has gamma settings which just aren't available on the PD170. Decide what look you want and then buy whatever you think is appropriate.
