cameras?

are there any suggestions for a good camera preferably digital
thats around or under $200.00. does anyone also know where and how to get special discounts or student discounts for cameras and other supplies like microphones?

For $200-ish, there's not really a lot to pick from. Hi-8 and VHS-C cameras start around that price level... those are not digital, so you'd need some way of capturing the footage through a converter or capture-card. (Extra expense)

There are some "digital" palmcorders under $200, but they are not mini-dv. They record onto flash-memory cards in .mp4 format... which is a suitable quality for watching low-quality compressed movies over the 'net, but that's about it.

Hope that was somewhat useful, even if not exactly the best news. :)

Go on ebay.com

type ZR100 in the search bar

on the sorting box (towards the right side), select price: highest first

scroll down and probably go to the next page as well

find the lowest priced value kit, its probably just above $200

ebay is amazing like this. these are actual retailers selling these products with value kits, everything brand new. since these are all retailers with for the most part good customer satisfaction ratings, you dont need to worry about getting screwed. and its all 'buy it now' so you dont need to sit and win a bid.

the ZR100 is Canon's most affordable Mini DV camcorder. Camcorderinfo.com likes it (and theyre hard to please) and under Who's It For, Pro's/Hobbyists has a 7.0 rating. It also has somewhat decent manual control (despite what B&H says). The only downside is no mic in or accessory shoe, but it does have a wind cut option.

For best quality with an onboard mic, make sure air conditioning, machinery, and other probable causes of background 'hum' are turned off when shooting indoors. When shooting outdoors since those mics are supersensitive, use the wind cut option.
