Soundtrack vs Protools?

ProTools any day, but then pro-tools on the higher level not necessarily LE. The great thing about pro-tools is its easy intergration into AVID - (made by the same people).
You can get digidesign desks as well for all the gimmicks.

In what way

If you look at who is backing Soundtrack Pro, there might be some hesitation on deciding straight digidesign. Yes digi has all the "gimmicks" but soundtrack and logic can use the same tdm system that digi created and most of the desk controllers can be used by apple software aswell. Yes protools is owned by avid but avid did not create protools. It was built from the ground up. This means there are a lot of hidden commands that make it hard to learn protools on your own. Soundtrack pro was built for Final Cut Pro. There are easy transfers from one application to another, conforming a session after picture changes are easier, and Soundtrack offers movie play back in HD. With protools you would have to get a word sync to sync up the video for a nice looking picture ( which they do in hollywood). So i guess it all comes down to your budget and what your picture editor uses. Avid isn't any better than Final Cut. If you disagree ask Walter Merch.
