I am in no way associated with the production, but I will put a spoiler tag on just in case I am right.
I think the dude suffers from MPD and one personality is setting the other up to be a murderer. Think Fight Club, where Ed Norton's character (aka Jack) is forced by Tyler to kill Marla.

The bald guy, the way he looks and the way he's depicted in the trailer, reminds me of the bald guy in The Machinist (http://imdb.com/title/tt0361862/).
