Why should I get Avid instead of Production Suite (with Final Cut Pro)?

I will be buying a new machine to run it on. I will be producing standard broacast quality and HD edits online and cut lists for film. Also DVD authoring and perhaps some colour correction.

For that matter what is the equivelant Avid package?

If I go on the Apple site everything seems pretty clear, the software functions, price and the specification of machine required. The Avid site on the other hand, are the prices a secret, do they check out your bank balance before telling you the cost?

Any advice gratefully received.
Steven

This is no different than asking "Ford or Honda?"....

It's 100% preference. Anyone who tells you one is "better" is speaking solely of their preference.

Very well said boo. I personally like FCP.

I agree with Sonnyboo. If you're leaning toward FCP and are comfortable with that system, then go for it. Both Avid and FCP are industry standards.

I've been using Final Cut since version 2 came out, and I'm addicted. If you have a mac, I'd go with final cut, and dvd studio, compressor, motion, etc, all are integrated with eachother, it's a sweet deal.

But, then again, FCP only works with mac so it depends on what machine youre looking into. Avid works with both PC and Mac, so...

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

As I come from a design background, I am more familiar with Macs. So FCP will probably suit me better.

Cheers
