Hey peeps just wondering if it's possible to build a server off of a G3 macintosh computer? If anyone has any mac server links that would be cool too. Thanks just missing around, trying to learn something.

View Full Version : Can you build a server with an old G3 Mac? learnfilmonline 01-17-2005, 07:43 AM Hey peeps just wondering if it's possible to build a server off of a G3 macintosh computer? If anyone has any mac server links that would be cool too. Thanks just missing around, trying to learn something. DirectorX 01-17-2005, 09:08 AM You can use just about any Mac. Mac OS X Server would probably be your best bet. Will Vincent 01-17-2005, 09:52 AM Actually... I would run BSD on it. www.openbsd.org (http://www.openbsd.org/) it would be the most stable, and the most powerful. NetBSD (http://www.netbsd.org) would also work.. but openBSD has supported Mac for longer I believe.. and it's also built to be more secure (why they call it OPEN then is kinda weird) learnfilmonline 01-17-2005, 03:34 PM OK sweet thanks, now can someone give me a small breakdown, like so what I install this onto my G3, then do i have to do a million things to make it live. Do i need an IP address, sorry I'm really new at this. I just want to know how it works? Will Vincent 01-17-2005, 04:32 PM there's a how-to section on the bsd site that should walk you through getting up & running learnfilmonline 01-18-2005, 10:36 AM Sweet thanks again for your help twice. Will Vincent 01-18-2005, 10:59 AM Not a problem.. if you do go the BSD route (much better choice than MAC OS, as it's designed to be run as a server..) when you get it installed, if you still need help configuring it and such, email me and I'll see what I can do to help. learnfilmonline 01-19-2005, 03:06 AM Awesome i'll let you know, it will be a while because I'm working on this pitch. But thanks again. |
