View Full Version : website
victorian 08-26-2004, 11:13 AM Finally, I've scrapped enough money for a website. I've already got a domain name and now my task is to find the right price for the site (this site is going to be the official site for my feature). Can anyone recommend the website that offers decent fees for websites?
thanks much
CCLVideo 08-26-2004, 11:24 AM I use Ipowerweb.com they are pretty decent for the price and amount of space you get. Plus their service is decent.
I know someone posted a pretty decent priced web hosting company a little while back it might be worth a look too.
victorian 08-26-2004, 11:29 AM Thanks much CCL. Do you have the link for the previous post?
LOGAN L Productions 08-26-2004, 11:52 AM I use Globat.
2,500 MB Webspace
75 GB Bandwidth/mo.
More stuff like 2,500 emails too...
...$95 per year ($7.95 per Month)
If you use THIS link in THIS post to order:
http://affiliates.globat.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=loganl
I will get commision which will go toward budgeting my next short film :)
victorian 08-26-2004, 12:10 PM So is 2,500 MB webspace enough for a feature's official site?
CCLVideo 08-26-2004, 12:22 PM I would hope so, I mean even if you gonna play the movie on the site as long as you compress it enough for the net you should be fine.
LOGAN L Productions 08-26-2004, 01:10 PM That's usually considered a lot of space...
OrangeMango 08-26-2004, 05:56 PM Quick question: Where'd you go to buy your domain?
Zensteve 08-26-2004, 06:03 PM 2500mb is huge. Good lcuk trying to fill it up.
The Globat that Logan mentioned usually has a "get a free domain name" offer going, so it's simply a matter of filling in the form with the name you want when it prompts you.
LOGAN L Productions 08-26-2004, 07:31 PM Yup. It's a package deal with Globat. Most other hosts have an in-house domain seller or are affiliated with one, or they sell it themselves separate. If not then I would suggest googling "cheapest domain names" (because the price doesn't matter...you get the same domain)...
arniepix 08-27-2004, 08:24 AM A friend of mine can host your website. Email him at jmfrizz@oddpost.com, tell him that I refered you.
sonnyboo 08-27-2004, 09:52 AM I use POWWEB. They ahve a similar deal to Logan's.
$7.77 per month for 1 gig of storage, but 150 gig of bandwidth per month (5 gig per day).
Other movie related sites on POWWEB...
http://www.sonnyboo.com
http://www.scottspears.net
http://www.slmfilms.com
http://www.themannproject.com
http://www.brandyseymour.com
http://www.outofourheads.com
http://www.caleodis.com
The difference between the two delas is POWWEB offers more bandwidth, but they offer more storage. The Logan deal kickas a lot of ass.
I can only say that for myself, I am hosting video files for my site on 2 other powweb accounts just because I go through an average of 7 gig a day, and days like yesterday, I go through 12-13 gigs of bandwidth... PER DAY because I have a lot of video files onmy site.
I have over 50 video files on my site and I'm only at 500 meg of storage.
film8ker 08-27-2004, 12:47 PM http://hosting.parcom.net/services/shared_hosting/parcom_shared_pricing.htm
this is the best hosting service I’ve seen. Unmonitored bandwith, 999 email accounts with with 100+ MB storage, subdomains, cheap domain regaistration ($15/yr .com - $40/year .tv), lots of space, dirt cheap, and really good people to work with.
See all the details here: http://hosting.parcom.net/services/shared_hosting/parcom_comparison_chart.htm#Pricing
Please tell them we referred you (www.5FEP.com) so we can get a month free.
LOGAN L Productions 08-27-2004, 02:06 PM Just remeber...if you bought globat, you'd be helping LOGAN L Productions out :)
...but do whatever feels best for you.
victorian 08-27-2004, 03:22 PM thanks everyone. I finally decided to go with powweb.
BTW Sonnyboo, I put your name down as the referral person
Zensteve 08-27-2004, 03:31 PM Kind of a sidenote:
If you are expecting your server/host to get hammered with huge a/v downloads from your site, you should take a look at how many domains each host tends to squish onto a single server.
That's just a performance thing, and probably not worth checking for basic site go-go.
sonnyboo 08-30-2004, 10:28 AM thanks everyone. I finally decided to go with powweb.
BTW Sonnyboo, I put your name down as the referral person
Thanks.
Don't get me wrong - Logan's deal is really good too. That's a LOT of storage space for the same price. It really just depends on personal needs. It's very preferential.
JasonJolliff 08-31-2004, 04:02 PM I use GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com/) and Network Solutions (http://www.networksolutions.com/). Network solutions has a domain management system that I really like; but I maintain several domains...you may not need that.
