Coordinating with sound guy

Hi, we're getting a sound guy to record the audio for our film. Generally how do you go about getting the audio from the sound guy? Do you usually carry a laptop around and copy all the sounds or get them to send the sounds over the internet?

What's your prefered method?

Each audio person is probably going to have their own preferred method, but usually it's either:

- Burn a DVD, deliver at the end of the day, the next day, or the end of the shoot
- Upload to 'the cloud'/a server for you to download
- Dump onto your computer

Remember a good audio person is also going to go back through the recordings and name them properly according to the takes, which can take them some time so if you don't want to be sitting around waiting for him/her to do that at the end of every shooting day, bringing your laptop may not be the best way to do it.

Also make sure to ask them if they keep backup copies of everything (they should) and for how long they hold onto them. Some will keep them forever, some for a year or two, and some for just a few months.
