Hi guys... just thought I'd start a thread in relation to this. Has anyone started using it yet? I hear it can store up to two hours of HD video! Is it DVD-9 yet?

View Full Version : Dual Layer DVD! Shot Renegade 06-13-2004, 10:02 AM Hi guys... just thought I'd start a thread in relation to this. Has anyone started using it yet? I hear it can store up to two hours of HD video! Is it DVD-9 yet? film8ker 06-13-2004, 01:39 PM We’re putting out a DVD project on DVD-9 format, but there aren’t any consumer burners that will deal with this format. We have to send a DTL tape to the DVD manufacturer and they create a glass master and press the copies. My DVD guy says that is the only way to do DVD-9 format right now. We use a DVD company that outsources to Singapore to save on cost. They have really good rates if you’re looking for 1000 unit batches or more. http://www.megalodon.com/dvd_replication_gateway.html CommanderGoat 06-30-2004, 12:25 AM Here's a Dual Layer Burner (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=27-152-022&DEPA=1) for a pretty cheap price. Shot Renegade 06-30-2004, 08:25 AM Cheers Mr Goat! All hail! film8ker 07-02-2004, 02:07 PM Interesting. I sent that link to my DVD guru to ask him if that is the same DVD-9 as the glass press ones we’re having to outsource. film8ker 07-02-2004, 02:21 PM His reply: Sony makes one too: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1076453080578&skuId=6335138&type=product the problem at this point is in geting the DVD-9 media (or DVD-DL if it's consumer). The drives look nice, but I've been unable to find any mdiea for them outside of: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1082519208752&skuId=6628483&type=product directorlca 07-02-2004, 09:05 PM I remember hearing something about dual layered DVD+Rs. . . does this sound familiar to anyone else? They don't have DVD-Rs that are dual layered, but I do remember hearing about the DVD+Rs. . . . maybe it was a typo. Ah, just saw the burner link a few posts above, cool. donald gregory 07-28-2004, 11:22 AM The burner may be nice, but you're not going to find any replication company who'll accept those discs in making a DVD-9 master. It'll be a while until you don't have to go with DLTs |
