View Full Version : In the Era of Cheap DVD's, Anyone Can Be a Producer

Well, it's not quite accurate... but it's the title of an article I just read in the NY Times.

Here is the whole article (

It's a rather fluffy piece overall, but some people may find it useful. It's mainly about people flogging off their own DVDs via 'net sales, from their homes. Also a bit about how some of the newer DVD online rental places are finding room for smaller films, both in rentals and in burn-on-demand.

Here's a quote from it:

In some cases, DVD producers get lucky. Mary Dalton, a professor of communications at Wake Forest University, also creates documentaries, including one about an artist named Sam McMillan.

When an article about Mr. McMillan appeared in Smithsonian magazine, Ms. Dalton started receiving requests for copies. So she started making 50 copies at a time, storing them in her bedroom and selling them online.

Now... go sell some movies! 8)
