CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!

Attention low-to-no budget moviemakers! The Fourth Annual Microcinema Fest has released an official call for entries. Formally known as the REwind International Media Festival, this year's event is again held in beautiful Rapid City, South Dakota July 5-12, 2004.

Short subject and feature length movies submitted will be eligible for exhibition on two screen at the Elks Theater in downtown Rapid City, as well as juried competition for cash prizes in the following categories: DRAMA, COMEDY, SCI-FI/HORROR, ACTION/ADVENTURE, FAN-FILM, DOCUMENTARY This year, the grand prize awarded to the best feature-length movie will be a Panasonic AGDVX-100, the three-chip digital video camera that has revolutionized shooting on shoestring budgets.

Entry Fees:
Features: (movies longer than 45 minutes) $10 each

A cooperative effort between three major Microcinema news and review sites, several independent film and video production companies and the State Film Commission of South Dakota, Microcinema Fest combines low festival submission fees, deals on accommodations, networking forums and three nights of screenings in two theaters. It is a weeklong event hosted by people who make movies for people who make movies and a celebration of the art of moviemaking with little-to-no money.

Sounds interesting. I have a couple of questions, though:

What format would you like submissions in?

Is there a maximum budget requirement? (ie, what do you consider "microcinema")

Also, is there a website for this festival?

As Microcinema Fest showcases truly independent, low-to-no budget movies, preferential treatment is given to work produced with a "do-it-yourself" (DIY) ethic that best represents how original, daring and energetic cinema can be produced with limited resources. Movies with budgets in excess of $50,000 will be considered, but largely do not fit the festival's profile.

Running Times
Both shorts and feature length movies are eligible for consideration and juried competition. Shorts are movies with a running time of no more than 45 minutes. Feature-length work runs 45 minutes or longer.

Categories (Genres)
Movies in the following categories (or genres) are eligible for juried competition and the award of cash prizes:

DRAMA, COMEDY, SCI-FI/HORROR, ACTION, FAN-FILM,
DOCUMENTARY

If a movie does not belong explicitly to one of these categories, moviemakers submitting their work can select one that is most fitting. For instance, if a movie is a "MUSICAL" but is very humorous, it could compete for prizes in the "COMEDY" category. Or if a movie is an "EXPERIMENTAL" work, but contains disturbing or violent imagery, it could compete for prizes in the "HORROR" category.

Moviemakers can select up to THREE CATEGORIES in which their submitted work can compete. It is possible for a movie to be awarded winning status in multiple categories.

Exhibition Formats
In the event that your submitted movie is accepted to Microcinema Fest, organizers will request of those who submitted VHS copies to submit the BEST POSSIBLE NTSC VIDEO FORMAT available of the production for exhibition. Acceptable exhibition formats are:
