ACHEIVE THE LOOK OF FILM! With this adaptor the Canon XL1/XL1s camcorder is able to accept Nikon style mount 35mm film lenses.. This is a new product that allows the digital filmmaker to use any Nikon mounted lens. The adaptor is stainless steel. It goes from the XL1 mount to a Nikon mount.
SUMMARY:
The Nikon Lens Adaptor is a mechanical mount that enables the cinematographer to use Nikon lenses with the Canon XL-1/XLls. The adaptor allows the lens to be seated at the proper distance from the film plane, in the case of the XL-1 the distance from the CCD. It enables the lens to perform well, giving a sharp image. Since the adaptor lets the cinematographer use motion picture lenses made of higher quality glass than video lenses, one can see the difference in the quality of the image. When using the adaptor with either 16MM or 35MM lenses, the (DOF) depth of field is preserved, and it effectively increases the focal length of the Nikon mounted. We have expirenced a 2x to 4x effect with this adaptor. However, since this is a new product, we have not, to date done extensive testing on a variety of lenses. We have not experienced any focus problems or vignetting. . In some instances one may lose 1 or 2 stops of light. This is by no means a significant issue. I come from a film background and I feel this Nikon adaptor is a valuable cost effective tool for the independent filmmaker. In essence you are getting a 2 for 1 deal because you can use your High Quality Nikon lenses for still photos as well as digital video production.
