Let's see ...
I could use the rubber band to build a time machine, ala MacGyver (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165375/).
I could go back to my high school days and use your ID to be a new mysterious kid from strange and exotic Nebraska.
I could use the nickel to buy a gumball, which I could then use to impress Cindy Lou (high school crush) with my bubble blowing abilities.
Jackpot indeed, my friend. Jackpot indeed.
Consider yourself on the list.
On a more "On Topic" note. I watched Fight Club (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137523/) for the umpteenth time last night. But this time was different, I was at a friend's house ... a friend-with-an-HD-TV's house!!! Wow, was it awesome to see!

I watch American Idol all the time. There's nothing wrong with talented people singing in a talent contest. And Quentin was pretty good on the show.
KB Vol.2 was alright to me. Not as good as Vol. 1 in my book, but it was completely different in the tone. I did like the parts with Elle Driver, but I was dissapointed in how her situation was resolved (or not resolved in my opinion).

I won't give away The Bride's name here. You'll just have to see the film. I don't know what all the secrecy was about, though ...
It wasn't cause the film was more dialogue driven that I didn't like it as much, it was because of one reason ...
SPOILER
It was because I felt that The Bride didn't get the revenge she did in Vol. 1. In Vol. 1, she "killed a lot of people to get where" she wanted to, but in Vol. 2 ....
MAJOR SPOILER, IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE ANYWAY.
... she only really kills one person, and that's Bill.
END OF SPOILERS ... OR IS IT?
Anyway, it felt hollow at the end for me.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I think what I was feeling about the Bride not getting her rvenge was what QT was going for. I think he wanted Beatrix to hate killing Bill, but they both knew it had to be done. It also reminded her of why she was getting out in the first place.

the goonies rule, i haven't seen it for years & i was asking my brother the other day why exactly does it rule so much?
kmjsc
08-13-2004, 10:51 AM
It rules just because and that is as good a reason as any. Also I have to add The Last Unicorn to my list

I'm just glad you knew what I was talking about! I've had people look at me like I'm crazy when I bring that up. I really do wish I could find a copy of that somewhere. I think I rented it when I was a kid (because I saw a video from it on MTV), and it was the only time I've ever seen it. I love the original version (which I saw years later - many times), but the cheesy tinted one has stuck with me ever since that one and only viewing.

Sorry, never saw it, but I heard many good reviews. It just played theatres not too long ago, didn't it? I'm not certain, but I don't think it had any relation to the Fritz Lang film.

Yeah, I've seen it. If you like your 1920's German expressionism tinted with a little Queen and Pat Benatar thrown in, this version is a must see! (PS - the original theatrical version is available too) :-)

Fritz Langīs Metropolis and the 2001 anime film have similar themes, as both deal with futuritstic distopias. otherwise they are completely different films.
The 1930's film is of course a landmark in movie history but the cartoon is also groundbreaking in itīs own way, as it combines traditional 2d with CGI with stunning results.

hey, so I'm new, and what better way to introduce myself on a film site than to list my favorites (in no order):
2001 A Space Odyssey
the Exorcist
Fight Club
Blade Runner
the Big Lebowski
the first Matrix
Signs
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Waking Life
Field of Dreams
and from here on out it gets more grey... I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting, and I don't really like these types of lists anyway cause it's so hard to choose...
I love film scores. My favorites are:
1492 Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis (all time favorite)
A Thin red Line by Hans Zimmer
Crimson Tide by Hans Zimmer
Willow by James Horner
Batman (the first one) by Danny Elfman
the Rocketeer by James Horner
Jurassic Park (the first one) by John Williams
once again, it's hard to not list more, but these are by far my favorites.

Hi all,
I'm a newbie here so I'll probably get flamed for not putting up my top 10 list - still working on it.
But I did want to point out that there seems to be a pretty strong skew to more recent films on the list. Aside from the occasional Citizen Kane it's all stuff from the last 5-7 years.
Just an observation.

Just kidding ;)
There are some lists in there with older stuff, including mine. (Just had to edit it 'cos a remake of one just came out... tsk tsk)
You a fan of older films?
ahab
08-26-2004, 09:47 PM
This will be tough, because I've probably not seen that many... I will exclude Metropolis and Cabinet of Dr. Caligari because they were on my first list. I'll also exclude Citizen Kane, King Kong, and Casablanca (though I like all three very much).
Not in any particular order:
The Fly
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Wings
Nosferatu
African Queen
The General
His Girl Friday
Frankenstein
High Noon
Glen Miller Story
The Quiet Man
The Blob
Holiday Inn
The Incredible Shrinking Man
War of the Worlds
-- yes, I watched a lot of old horror movies as a kid. And I'll admit I never saw the old musicals till my wife made me watch them...

You gotta understand that people will feel more of a connection with films that they grew up with...
...good observation, though. I honestly didn't notice at first.

I know there are some brilliant films in the history of cinema, I just don't get into older films as much, maybe it's an aesthetic thing. My top two favorite films are 2001 A Space Odyessy and The Exorcist, and I think 2001 is still ahead of it's time thematically and structurally. Geez, what an amazing film! People still don't get it, though...
