View Full Version : Just Wondering
Mr. Blonde 03-31-2004, 06:58 PM Hey everyone. I was just wondering what some of you thought about some of my favorite movies. Just out of curiousity.....
Reservior Dogs: One of my favorites. Very cheap but nicely done. I have soo much respect for QT.
Pulp Fiction: Again on the cheap side. QT has this knack for making a million dollar film look like a 5 million dollar film. Also this movie was very original, and it helped revolutionize filmaking in the 90s. Also John Travolta owes his career to this film.
Donnie Darko: Very strange. Very Original. Very f***ing kool!!! Really enjoyed watching this movie because it was different then all the other stuff that was being shot out of hollywood.
Bad Lieutenant: One of Kietel"s best films. Great acting in this one. Also very interesting in showing the way a human being can deconstruct during a certain period of time.
So what do u guys think of some of my fav. movies......some of my other ones are Jackie Brown, The Untouchables, Bullitt, and True Romance.

FYI Pulp Fiction's budget was $8 million ... 8 million is a lot easier to work with than 1 million, but I get your point :-)

I'm not totally disagreeing with you, but did you know that on Kill Bill, QT went WAAAAAAAAAY over budget as well as over schedule. Just some interesting info I read somewhere. That's why they split it into two movies!
Anyway, You have great taste in movies. I love all of those (the ones I've seen). We have the same taste I think.
Mr. Blonde 03-31-2004, 10:04 PM Good point. I didn't even think of Kill Bill. I read in some magazine he used over a hundred gallons of fake blood in the last couple of scenes when Uma Thurman fought Lucy's 88 henchmen. I also read he wrote a much longer script then expected.
Hahaha, how stupid do i feel? I don't even know why I thought Pulp Fiction was made for 1 million...my bad my bad
Mr.Blonde 04-01-2004, 12:57 AM You have awesome taste in films!! Quentin Tarantino is my freakin hero.
Reservoir dogs kicks ass!! (As you can tell, I'm a fan) Just everything about it is so freakin cool.
Pulp fiction, I love. Travolta was lacking in popularity at that time so it did give his career a major boost. True romance... I liked it but not one of my faves. Jackie Brown was cool, still yet to read the book or whatever it was based on. I liked natural born killers, but it could have been better. Kill Bill vol 1, loved it. Amazing from beginning to 'to be continued', can't wait for vol 2!!!
Donny Drako was... Hmm... strange but enjoyable. Let's just say I haven't looked at smurfs the same way since. My favourite line is "What are feaces?" & the other little girl says "baby mice".
Kietel rules. He was amazing in From dusk till dawn, which is another of my faves (My friend & I have this thing were we say 'the lapdog of satan' line) & Quentins character was so funny, considering the fact that he was a deranged rapist... the plate was a nice touch.
Ryan Paige 04-01-2004, 01:47 AM I get the feeling I'm the only person in the world who prefers Jackie Brown to the rest of Tarantino's films.
Mr.Blonde 04-01-2004, 02:47 AM I don't think you're the ONLY one...
I liked it, don't get me wrong. I just llike his others more.
Start a topic: Who prefers Jakie Brown to Tarantino's other works?
& ask for people only to respond if they agree. You'll find some people then.
soundonscene 05-07-2004, 02:35 PM I particularly liked the soundtrack for Donnie Darko. I liked the movie also.
Jackie Brown was a great flick. I'll rent some of the others you've mentioned.
Mr.Blonde 05-09-2004, 06:14 AM I saw kill bill vol2 again today... :)
rizien 05-09-2004, 12:30 PM hmm... i love tarantino and his films a LOT, but i dont think i could sit through Vol. 2 again...somethign about it
rizien 05-09-2004, 12:30 PM hmm... i love tarantino and his films a LOT, but i dont think i could sit through Vol. 2 again...somethign about it
I'm not particuarily a fan of tarantino. Especially his Kill Bill series. It's just seems too shallow to me.
Mr.Blonde 05-10-2004, 01:25 AM *makes a stabbing motion* Nah, that's your opinion.. I except that *mumbles angrily under breath..*
I liked vol2 more than vol1.. It was more 'tarantino' in my opinion. Of course it's shallow!! It's a take-off!!
But I loved it. & I continue to love it.
the_silver_addiction 05-10-2004, 03:03 AM Tarantino, I think, is my favorite director of all time. I loved what he said about not making a directors cut for Pulp Fiction because he made the movie the right way the first time. That's the way I want to feel about every movie I make. Whenever I see any of his films I feel inspired to go out and make a movie. And I do like Jackie Brown, I'm not totally sure if it's my favorite though. I loved Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2. They may be a little shallow, but as far as style and bloodshed go, you can't ask for much more. It's perfect if you're if you are looking to be entertained. Anyway. That's all.
Mr.Blonde 05-10-2004, 03:12 AM I so agree with you. I loved when he said that & stop ringing that damn bell!! lol
Nice avatar too mate.
danielle 05-10-2004, 08:58 AM I love Kill Bill... Both volumes. I see it as 1 movie.
I saw vol.2 twice opening weekend :)
i liked them both in their own way. I don't even know how many times I've seen Vol.1 -- but it's been a LOT.
Mr.Blonde 05-11-2004, 01:37 AM Cool, I love finding people that agree with me... None of my friends are Tarantino fans & that kills me. As I've said before: Any fan of Tarantino is a friend of mine.
scrappydy 05-11-2004, 12:23 PM I think some people just get jealous and envious of his ingenius talents so they can't appreciate it. But, I could be wrong and there could really be people out there who just don't like his style.
I don't dislike his style persay, just the plots. I really like movies that have something to say, a deeper meaning that pure entertainment.
Mr.Blonde 05-12-2004, 03:14 AM I see your point.
danielle 05-12-2004, 10:23 AM I don't. I watch movies for entertainment not for a lesson in life. Thats ok if they do have a "message" but I don't want to feel like I'm constantly watching a community service message.
Sorry I get a little defensive with his movies because I think they're so awesome :)
No worries :) we all have our own opinions and I respect that. That's not to say I *don't* like movies for entertainments sake. It's just that my favorites always have something to say. Just my little quirk I suppose :D
DeceptionA 05-12-2004, 11:19 AM Reservior Dogs: Pretty good. But, something about it, not sure what, doesn't put it on my top 10.
Pulp Fiction: On my top 10 favorites.
Donnie Darko: On my top 10 favorites.
Bad Lieutenant: Never seen.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 was decent/good, Vol. 2 was bad. all in my opinion.
Mr.Blonde 05-13-2004, 03:28 AM Well, different people like different things in films.
I like the saying: You should write about what you need to learn about most.
So obviously, writers might learn something from some films.
I find that I learn different things from films that other's might not have noticed.

I agree. I liked Big Fish b/c I thought the settings and how they made the shots look "dreamy" were beautiful. But a lot of people hated that movie (well, out of my friends who watched it b/c they were disappointed with Tim Burton's new style). But, I'm an art dawg, so I'm usually into the visual details of the films I watch.
Mr.Blonde 05-13-2004, 07:25 PM See!
NicklausLouis 05-13-2004, 07:30 PM Tim Burton's new style
Tell your friends that Burton's "new" style is actually his old style. He got away from it on a few movies, but returned to form on Grande Piscado. (that's Big Fish)
Poke
Mr.Blonde 05-13-2004, 07:38 PM Very very true. The 'dreamy' appearance you speak of was used in Edward Scissorhands.. You know, with the snow & how it didn't snow until Edward was there.
Mr.Blonde 05-13-2004, 07:39 PM & in sleepy hollow.
NicklausLouis 05-13-2004, 10:27 PM Although I liked Sleepy Hollow, I consider it one of Burton's departures from his original style. If he'd done it ten years earlier, thet movie would have been creepy and cool.
Poke
scrappydy 05-14-2004, 12:08 PM This is all true, but I guess I should clarify for my friends' sakes...they mean his "new style" as in a brighter choice of story b/c it's not his usual dark story. I don't know if I'm making sense here. But, a lot of them didn't like the story and couldn't even sit through it to watch it or thought it was a waste of their money. I'm saying that I always like the art direction he has in his films so that's why I can bear to watch them. Although, I'm not all opposed to the plot of Big Fish. I get the feeling that I'm going to be like Ewan Mcgregor's character when I get older (always experiencing the oddest things and then having to tell the stories about them later). Haha! It almost happens to me on a regular basis, people never believe me.
Mr.Blonde 05-14-2004, 06:54 PM Oh, I get you now. It was awfully cheery... *shudders* nah, that was one of the reasons I liked it. Yeah, it was kinda upbeat, while I found Edward Scissorhands kinda depressing..
christdrinkspee 05-16-2004, 08:59 AM i dont really like that movie donnie darko.
Mr.Blonde 05-16-2004, 09:14 AM Why? If you don't mind me asking.
