Chess 4 Life SHORT SYNOPSIS:
Randy enters an unexpected game of chess at the showgrounds with twists our reality cannot imagine. His love of chess and his friend's pleadings force Randy into the game of his life. Literally. The game has a limit of twenty minutes, if it's not done by then, he plays again.

This film is an interesting twist on a game of chess. The story was originally written by Randy Ingermanson, but was adapted for screen by Brendan Cherry (myself)

I love chess and I hope the features is more engaging than the trailer. The trailer felt bland and didnt grab my attention. Heres the biggest thing, what is stopping the kid from walking out of the room?

Actually the reasons as to why he can't get out are addressed in the film, but don't appear in the trailer. The short film is actually based on a short story by Randy Ingermanson. Thanks for the feedback!

So you knew the trailer didn't provide the audience the best info possible and you still went with it? That doesn't really make sense. Probably the reason why nobody else but me has posted anything...

I got the impression it was a thriller based on the tone of the music. But I think I would like to see a hint of what it is that would stop the kid from walking out.

You have got 30seconds to a minute and a half to grab the viewer and not let go. For that viewer to text or call their friends and pass the info or for the viewer to share the link. If you don't do your job right with the trailer, nobody will care...

Don't get me wrong, I have never edited a trailer of any kind, but it is obvious you didn't provide the information needed to spark the imagination of the viewer and you knew it. Scratching my head at this one.

I still wish nothing but the best for the film

I guess I know now, but it actually hadn't crossed my mind that the audience would question why he was trapped in there during the trailer. As I said it's addressed in the film, and it's actually as simple as that the door locks behind him when he enters and he accepts that he just has to play the game in order to get out.

Yeah I haven't had much trailer experience, really only one other short that I made about six months ago. Any other potential trailer tips are welcome

The film is a mixture of Thriller/Drama/Sci Fi, though I am no genre expert. Thanks for the feedback.
