My 'new' HV40 camera

I finally have myself a camera to get me started learning the ropes with filters and lenses (along with all the other parts) but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm trying to get my hands on a focus ring as this roller what ever you call it, I call it insane. I have searched online but they seem to be fairly unavailable as it stands but any suggestions would be very well received.

Thanks!

Get one and shoot, shoot, even if you only shoot trees, get out and get some footage and edit. Good Luck !

Lenses will be iffy IMO...accessory lenses on a cam w/ a fixed lens always gives a soft focus. Some Wide angles are OK , but telescpopic and fisheye lenses are very soft and have aberrations.

You still have a fine cam there I had 2 of the HV20s when they first came out.

OHHH what about sound ?? just as important as the cam. I was VERY disappointed when I did a shoot w/ lights and a generator and I plugged my shotgun mic into a 20 foot cable which plugged into my HV20. Buzz city

I have used the HV20 and HV40 for several projects (here and here) and have been very happy with *most* of the results. Avoid low-lit dark shots as the sensor does not do well at night, unless you're blasting a good amount of light onto the subject. And I think the best setting for 24p is with CineMode off using the Shutter Priority mode at 60. This, to me, gives the cleanest capture.

**And you'll have to do the Telecine Pull-Down Polka with the HV20 for true 24P. If you're using Final Cut Pro or the latest Premiere it shouldn't be a problem. The HV40 shoots in true 24P.** EDIT. You have an HV40 so you're good!

And this is the best wide lens for that rig. It pretty much stays on the camera.

Good luck!
