I am really trying to ring the best quality video for my money and cannot decide to record with the Canon XL1S PAL or the Canon XL1S NTSC version. I live in the U.S with our NTSC. However, PAL has more lines of resolution. If I get the PAL version of the camera would it work on U.S TVs and DVD players? Is there any way to record in PAL to get better resolution, and then transfer to NTSC?

If you record in PAL, and convert to NTSC, you're not gaining anything.

What is your end product? DVD for North America? Go NTSC.

If your end product is a blow up to film, it will look better from PAL.
