Try Rules of Attraction - I know they have one part which is split screen showing two characters and how they wake up and how different their lives are.
It'll work as long as you don't have too many characters
Sometimes we do have to cut, its a sad tale but we gotta do whats gotta be done :)
Still like you say, you can always take it out in the re-write - at least its good practice
Good Luck

Check out Drew's Script-O-Rama (http://www.script-o-rama.com). They have links to a ton of scripts. Find a movie you know had a similar montage (like Rules of Attraction (http://www.avary.com/rulesofattraction/screenplay/roa-screenplay.php)) and copy it.

Also check out Jo Blo (http://www.joblo.com/moviescripts.htm).
