watch Short Film - Mobsters, Pretty Girls & Violence

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tejPz9GERH4

Here is a recent short film I did. Shot it with a Canon T2i and a single 50mm 1.8 lens and a Red. (not sure of the lens used on the Red, since a buddy of mine came over with his Red and he shot the scene for me [poker scene/girl]).

Shot it over 3 nights. Budget was 150.00 but I think we spent 250.00

Crew was family and friends.

Shot, written and edited myself.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

If the youtube url is "www.youtube.com/watch?v=tejPz9GERH4", in this forum, you only put a youtube wrapper around the final part of the url, "tejPz9GERH4", to imbed.

There really should be a sticky on that.

a lot of care in costume and action, some of that is buried in the shaky cam.. Some really neat bits, seemed a bit long to me. You listed pretty girls before violence, I call false advertising... :) More violence than pretty girls..

Whole thing should have been slow-motion, the faster moments seemed out of place considering the pace of the song. Could have also done without the "earlier that night" caption and "fuck you" subtitles. They just didn't really fit.

Did really take quite long though, and this should really be counted as a music video, not a narrative piece (the difference being this is based on the song and uses the song as backing music). Normally with music videos they cut down the song to keep to a short enough time that the audience will actually stay interested throughout. Not to mention music videos have normally got some elements to make it rewatchable, whereas I don't see much reason to watch this again.

An example of a long as hell song that was cutdown for the music video would be 'Lindisfarne' by James Blake - that was so long that the song had actually got two parts to it, but he cut it down considerably.

Overall though I'd say it was very nice :) It really is a music video though, even if you didn't intend it to be, so I'd suggest removing the credits and other captions, cutting down the overall length to about half of what you've got already.

Man, I would've put some sound effects on the scenes at the card table. Deep, fat crackles on the cigars burning and bass heavy swipe noises on the draw of the playing cards. It would've made the 'silence' (background music notwithstanding) of the violent struggle seem more seperated, without compromising the flow of the piece. That's just my opinion though. I thought it was great.
