I'm the kind of person who thinks pop should be purchased in refillable glass bottles, so I will be happy to see the cassettes go.

It looks like it's Panasonic's proprietary version of AVCHD, but with a higher bitrate ceiling on certain format variants. Interesting.
And at this point, even my cell phone shoots better video than HDV. With all of the awesome HD formats out now, why would anybody want to shoot interlaced anamorphic video ever again? Ever?!
I sure as hell won't.
Yes, cassettes are annoying and obsolete, but you are going to so miss them when your hard drives start quickly filling with HD footage. :yes:

Sorry, but no it doesn't. Well, if you're talking a consumer HDV camcorder, maybe, but and HDV camera with an L-Series Canon lens or any of the other prosumer + models will beat the $13.00 iPhone lens every time.
Let's not get carried away. ;)
