The DSLR Tripod thread

Thought I'd start a topic on this, since presumably a lot of the members here are DLSR shooters/filmmakers.

The Manf 701 is the defacto head, but frankly it doesn't have the greatest rep. It's a step up from a Costco special. I have a 501 and have never loved it. It kind of blows actually. Sachtler has a DSLR system, but it's pricey. The problem of course is that most "Good" tripod systems are engineered for cameras that weigh more than a DSLR, and the light weight of DSLR's creates issues. My GH2 body weighs 1 pound.

So what are we using out there? Wei Fangers?

I have 3 tripods and the one I got for my DSLR is the Libec DV22. It's a $300 tripod and Libec has the rep for best bang for the buck. It's the model Libec recommends for DSLR's. It's better than my 501, but you know what? It's not the greatest. It's well made, light, fairly smooth, inexpensive, but there must be something better without going to the $1300 systems.

Anyway's this is true nuts and bolts stuff and maybe we can build a knowledge base here.

errr...this was supposed to go in the equipment forum. Sorry :/
