Hi ive been looking at this site for a few days and cant seem to find the answer, im 17 and am planning on going to uni to study media and moving image, im a huge film fan and would like to get a camera to start making my own films. What would be a good camera at an affordable price for an absolute beginner?

Awesome site btw!

If you're going to Uni for media and moving image, I'm sure they have facilities and equipment you can use. They might have a rental fee or something though.

I suggest learning the ins and outs of the equipment first because then you can buy something worthwhile. At this point you'll buy a cheap camcorder and only use the auto mode or buy a "pro" one and have no clue how to use it properly.

But if you absolutely need one for some reason, look at the Canon Vixia line. They're fairly inexpensive and have a decent amount of manual options.

Just my .002 I use a Canon 900zr Camcorder- a consumer camera that has some manual options you can play with. :)
