Curious...
I have an opp to get an agent, but before I do so...What exactly is the agent's job? Is he responsible for attaining a buyer? Or getting me in to pitch?

If you can get an agent, go for it! An agent should be interested in all phases of your career, after all, they get paid if you make money... In theory, an agent is in the business of marketing you as a screenwriter. So an agent should be shopping your script for you, s/he should also be setting up pitch meetings, and hopefully negotiating your contract for you. A good agent will help your career. At some point, if you sell you're script, you're going to need an agent (or attorney) anyway, just to deal with the legal side, so you might as well have your 10% go to somebody who will be marketing your script for you.
