It's a pretty good camera, but it all depends on what you're comparing it against. "Indie" covers quite a spectrum.

It has exponentially more resolution than HDV and a lot less compression. You can natively put 35mm film lenses (not still camera lenses) on the RED ONE. The RED ONE uses a roughly 35mm sensor for imaging which is also substantially larger than any HDV camera on the market.

Basically, you are comparing a professional tool to a semi-professional one.
