Desert scenes outside of LA

I'm producing a low budget horror/thriller that is a road trip movie from east to the west. We need a diner that doesn't have much business in the Barstow/ghost town area...or somewhere not too far from LA. I was wondering if anyone has shot out that way and maybe knows of a good run down restaurant/diner to film at. Also, if there are any other suggestion for desert areas to film in, maybe some abandoned gas stations and what not. Thank you very much!
