Everyone knows directors have a style that allows you to recognise thwie work, directors like David Lynch, David Cronenberg or Quentin Tarantino, who use different elements, stylistic choices and themes that makes their work memorable and makes it stand out.
Just wondering, what would the people here say they use for their style of directing and how would they describe their style?

Retro.

I hate quick cut MTV editing. I tend to use long (by todays' standards) shots. I don't like handheld (unless there is very good stylistic reason for it). In two shorts totaling an hour I think there is probably 45 seconds of handheld. I tend to use music heavily (think Wes Anderson or John waters). I like to use constructed sets, almost a soundstage or backlot aesthetic as opposed to being really married to "real" locations. I hate happy endings.

I like to direct with a "human touch" like Tornatore. Low depth of field like Gus Van Sant. Directing actors like Clint Eastwood.
